cafe diaries: the plank cafe
February 18, 2019Fellow coffee lovers, if you're looking for a hidden gem within the city, this place is perfect for you. The Plank Cafe is located at the end of the road that leads to Common Ground, the one beside QC Pavilion. Not only is the interior visually pleasing, the atmosphere is homey and the fact that there's so much artwork being hung on the walls just fuels my creative juices.
They also have these cute illustrations on clipboards of their best-selling drinks. Its really helpful 'cause you can see the ingredients in each drink so it helps you decide which one to get. Did I mention they're really cute too?
Another reason why this place is paradise for coffee and art lovers like me is the little corner in the cafe where they sell art supplies. They have really good ones too, I mean, the fact that they sell Copic markers here proves it.
Okay enough about art, let's talk about the most important thing in a cafe: the coffee. Honestly, to me, this place probably has the best coffee, in terms of taste. I haven't tried anything I didn't like. Dude, I don't know what they put in it or what beans they use but the coffee is so damn good. You know that satisfying feeling when you have a good cup of coffee, like everything is right in the world? Yeah, that's the feeling when you take your first sip.
Today I had their Phin Caf, which is a Vietnamese style drip coffee. The presentation looks really cute and instagram-able, but its the taste that really makes me order it every time I come back here. It has a bitter, smokey taste which might be weird for some people but its balanced out by mixing it with condensed milk (while the coffee's hot) and then poured over a glass with ice. I wish they served it in a larger size but I might palpitate for the rest of the day. Its super good though, you have to drop by and try it. (And look, they even gave me a tiny complimentary cookie)
My other favs include the Rose Steam and the Chai Tea Latte, which I unfortunately don't have pictures of. Okay I'm gonna be honest, and this might come as a shock but, I am not the biggest fan of Chai Tea. I tried the Starbucks one and instantly hated it. But I was so surprised to find that I actually loved the Chai Tea Latte here. I think its because the cinnamon taste is stronger than most and it blends really well with the other flavors.
The Rose Steam might be a little intimidating because, you know, its a flower duh. But its actually really good with milk (I think its steamed? Not sure). My friends and I tried it a while back and we all had the same thought: "It tastes like home". If a drink instantly puts a smile on your face, you know its good.
So yeah, those are the drinks I recommend if you don't know what to get. Definitely don't pass on this cozy 'lil cafe and who knows, we might bump into each other there.
Love always,
Chai
